Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has called on his supporters to back the candidature of his ODM counterpart Raila Odinga to be able to dislodge Jubilee administration from power.
For the opposition to be able to clinch power from President Uhuru Kenyatta, he pointed out that it was critical for other National Super Alliance (Nasa) principals to sacrifice their ambition for the sake of unity.
“I am that glue that held the principals together. I always moved in and engaged each and every individual until I realized that we reached a consensus,” he said.
He however challenged members of the Jubilee Party to start engaging the electorates on issue based campaigns instead of always attacking Raila.
On the other hand, the Bungoma Senator defended the Nasa proposal to create the positions of Premier Cabinet Secretary and two deputy slots saying that they are anchored in the constitution.
“This campaign should not always be about Raila and Nasa. Instead, the government should move in to address vital issues which include the rising cost of living among other issues affecting Kenyans,” he said.
As affiliates of Nasa, he said the principals will move across the country to campaign for Nasa candidates in general and called on aspirants vying on various coalition parties not to expect any endorsement.
“I call upon each and every candidate to focus on campaigning for the Raila- Kalonzo Musyoka ticket for us to be able to turn around the wrongs that the Jubilee administration has committed over the last four years,” he said.
Wetang’ula who spoke yesterday at Bomas of Kenya while issuing certificates to the aspirants who won in the just concluded party primaries further called on the winners to closely work with the losers to be able to stand a good chance of defeating their Jubilee Party counterparts.
The party’s national elections board chairperson Grace Katasi said the party issued 638 certificates to people vying for governor, senate, women rep, Members of Parliament and members of county assemblies.
“The dispute resolution board is however handling 20 cases and we hope to clear before the May 10 deadline set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,” she said.
Other leaders who spoke during the gathering included Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale and Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka among others.
