Panic grips Mbeere as six KCPE candidates go missing during exam time

At least six candidates have gone missing in Mbeere North Sub-County, Embu, causing panic among locals and education stakeholders, respectively in the area.

According to Joseph Ngonjo, the sub-county education director’s efforts to contact the candidates at home was fruitless.

It is suspected that the students might have abandoned the exams for some casual labour in the nearby muguka farms.

Two students among them sat for their exam in the same county while in hospital after giving birth while one of them was reluctant.

In Kwale, two expectant pupils sat for their exam in hospital. They had not yet delivered but were admitted due to other complications that needed close monitoring by medical practitioners.

In 2021 more than 29 candidates gave birth during the national exam in the region.

Meanwhile, in  Lugari constituency, officials from the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) were forced to photocopy the national examination papers after discovering that 23 candidates had not been registered for the examination.

Reports indicated that the 23 had been forced to repeat Class Seven and therefore missed the deadline for registration.
