A year after Deputy President William Ruto visited Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi visited the Ugandan president to discuss issues concerning South Sudan.
Of interest was the issue of the postponement of the planned retreat between President Salva Kiir and Vice President Dr Riek Machar, which was to take place but postponed due to unknown reasons.
Kalonzo also discussed bilateral relations between Kenya and Uganda.
Wiper leader, Kenya’s special envoy to South Sudan, has been part of the peace talks for the last two years and Uganda is one of the guarantors of the tripartite agreement between South Sudan, Uganda and Sudan.
However, this visit did not create a buzz compared to the Deputy President’s visit in July, last year.
Considering their friendship, many speculated that Museveni would take sides with the Deputy President in the August 2022 elections.
Museveni, however, was forced to do a press brief to dispel the rumours that he was going to support the DP.
Museveni said that he would not take sides in the elections, saying elections are important to the people of the country where it is taking place.
He was categorical that he nor Uganda would never take sides in the internal matters of another country.
Some citizens questioned why the Wiper leader was accompanied by the Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, questioning his role in the meetings if this was not a political meeting seeking political goodwill from Uganda.
