Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, began his nine-day campaign marathon in Nakuru’s Molo district yesterday, promising to unify Kenyans if elected president in the next election.
In a brief address to mourners at Kanga Primary School in Migori today, Odinga attacked Deputy President William Ruto as a junior politician with no serious program to sell to Kenyans, warning him to prepare for a harsh political battle on August 9.
He chastised Ruto for “continuous chest thumping” in a brief address to mourners at Kanga Primary School in Migori on Thursday.
“He constantly refers to me as a state project. If he is man enough then let him face off with me on August 9 and he will know that he was once my political student,” Odinga told the charged crowd.
Jared Osiany, the father of Industrialisation Chief Administrative Secretary David Osiany, died recently.
He was in the company of ODM deputy leader and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, and others.
“I want to see a country where we all can live and work freely anywhere in the four corners of our country (Tunataka kuunganisha wakenya kama kitu kimoja ili tutekeleze ile ndoto ya mababu zetu),” he added.
He will travel through the Rift Valley, Nyanza, Western, Eastern, Central, Northeastern, and Nairobi regions until March 12.
The two-week advertising blitz is widely seen as a warm-up for his big reveal at the conference.
The campaign will begin in Nakuru County, before moving on to Kisii and Nyamira counties on Thursday.
On Saturday, the convoy will go to Bungoma County before crossing into Machakos County for protests in Athi River and Mlolongo.
All of the governors of Ukambani have joined Azimio and endorsed Raila as the movement’s presidential candidate.
The Azimio team will be in Nakuru County tomorrow before heading to Kisii and Nyamira on Thursday, according to the timetable.
Raila and his team will set up camp in Bungoma on Friday before heading to Machakos County on Saturday to speak at rallies in Athi River and Mlolongo.
Before taking a vacation on Monday, the ODM leader would join his foot troops in a campaign blitz in Nyeri on Sunday.
The team will travel to Maralal and Baragoi on Tuesday before arriving in Wajir on Wednesday.
The team will go to Raila’s hometown of Kisumu on Thursday before returning to Nairobi for the Azimio la Umoja Delegates Conference on Friday.
