Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga inner circle, known as the Advisory Council, is anticipated to work on a grand manifesto and a winning plan to rally support across the country.
Former Public Service Commissioner Sally Kosgei and media mogul SK Macharia are among the seven members of an exclusive club that will play a key part in Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign.
Odinga’s council would also include Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Prof Makau Mutua, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, and former Speaker of the National Assembly Francis ole Kaparo, who will be chaired by Raila himself.
The campaign board’s decisions will be scrutinised by the council, which will be the final decision-making body.
Odinga appears determined to entrust Macharia, a long-time friend and a representative of the Mount Kenya Foundation (MKF), with the task of mobilizing and monitoring campaign finances from the organization that brings together business tycoons from Central Kenya.
Odinga has also enlisted the help of three notable university professors and his long-time adviser, Paul Mwangi, to steer and define his campaign and policy agenda.
The four members of the Odinga council, led by prominent American law lecturer Prof Makau Mutua, who will also serve as the Odinga Campaign’s spokesperson, will be tasked with formulating the ODM leader’s political strategy.
The board will have broad authority to run the campaign, generate funds, hire and fire employees, and manage logistics.
ODM deputy party leader Ali Hassan Joho will also be a member of the board that is chaired by Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi.
Other members of the campaign board include Journal of Academy of Business and Economics managing director Betty Montet, former Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner in Charge of Domestic Tax Elizabeth Meyo, who remains as the CEO of the Secretariat, Seth Kakusye, advocate Kanchory Saitaboi, National Gender and Equality Commissioner Priscilla Nyokabi and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.
