Security officers deployed in volatile areas as exams begin
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has reassured parents and candidates in insecure areas that the government has put in place measures to guarantee national exams are held on time and in a peaceful environment.
Magoha said appropriate security officers have been deployed in sensitive areas to safeguard the candidates’ safety while speaking at Kahuhia Girls’ High School in Murang’a county on Monday, where he commissioned a new classroom.
The CS shot down reports that the government planned to postpone exams in several sections of the country, particularly North Eastern, Coast, and Rift Valley, respectively.
“I want to calm our candidates so they can sit their exams in peace. Ignore rumours that there will be problems in some parts of the country. The government has taken firm action to ensure the exams are administered well. We have enough security,” Magoha said.
The national tests are set to begin next week, with KCPE candidates having a rehearsal day on Friday.
Meanwhile, CS Magoha has requested for the completion of CBC classrooms to be expedited, claiming that the national completion rate is around 75 per cent.
“Contractors have until the end of this week to complete the classrooms. During the examination period no contractors are expected to be at the site,” he stated.
