Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at businessman Stanely Livondo over President Uhuru Kenyatta assassination plot.
Ruto, who was identified in the alleged murder attempt on President, cautioned legislators against making hasty statements that could destabilize the country.
The DP said baseless words and claims by some politicians may easily fuel tensions and plunge the country into chaos while speaking at St John Catholic Church in Igembe South, Meru County.
Leaders, according to Ruto, should be cautious about what they say in public.
“I am calling on all leaders and politicians to be careful about what comes out of their mouths because careless and reckless utterances may cost the country a lot by bringing hatred and division ahead of the General Election,” he said.
The DP was reacting to remarks by controversial politician Stanley Livondo, who claimed there had been an attempt to assassinate the President in the past.
He was accompanied by Kenya Kwanza Alliance principals Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya Moses Wetang’ula and a number of legislators.
On two separate occasions, Livondo claimed that a senior government official plotted to wreck Uhuru.
According to Livondo, Uhuru broke ranks with the top government official after learning of the nefarious plans. Moses Kuria, as the convenor of the meeting when Livondo made the serious claims, requested that the DCI chief arrest the flamboyant politician.
Livondo alleged during Kuria’s thanksgiving event in Thika that a senior government official plotted to wreck Uhuru’s plane two consecutive times.
In the first assassination attempt, he stated the president was traveling from Kisumu to Nairobi, while in the second, he claimed he was flying to the United States through Dubai.
“If your friend, who is so close to you like a brother, attempts to crash a plane that you are on board more than twice, will you forgive him? Kenyans are just confused, they are just waiting for Uhuru to disclose why he broke ranks with the politician (Kama wewe ukona rafiki yako nayeye anataka, kukueka chini akuangushe na ndege, mara mbili, utamsamehe?)” said Livondo.
Kuria yesterday distanced himself from the remarks and asked the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti to investigate Livondo.
“As the convener of the thanksgiving prayer meeting in Thika, I may not be responsible for what speakers said but it was my meeting and I have to take responsibility. I have today requested Kinoti to arrest Stanley Livondo following his reckless statement,” said Kuria.
