Majority of the sitting members of parliament in Kiambu County won in their respective constituencies during the ongoing Jubilee Party nominations.
At the same time, outgoing Kikuyu MP Ferdinand Waititu was yesterday declared the winner in the Jubilee primaries for Kiambu governor race with 353,604 votes against the incuments William Kabogo’s 69, 916.
After receiving the certificate, Waititu told Kabogo that his landslide win against him was not something personal, but the voice of the people.
“Those people who have been voted out, Mr Kabogo and his government, we do not have any personal problem with them. If we have any question to ask or even consult them, we shall do it,” Waititu assured.
If elected in the August 8 polls, Waititu said he would run an all inclusive County Government that will be people driven.
Kiambu County being a Jubilee stronghold, it is almost a guaranteed victory for Waititu come the August polls and he says he will not disappoint.
“We shall deliver,” he said amid celebration from a section of his supporters who are camping at the Kiambu High School tallying centre.
“I am a very happy man because the people of Kiambu received a lot of money but decided to vote for the best leaders.”
The nominations also saw all the members of the county assembly trounced by new comers. And in an interesting move, three boda boda riders were elected as MCAs in Limuru constituency. All the three, however are university graduates.
Those who made it were Kimani Ichingwa( Kikuyu), Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), others were Paul Koinange (Kiambaa), Jude Jomo (Kiambu) Francis Waititu (Juja).
Those floored included, Njoroge Baiya (Githunguri), Kiragu Chege (LImuru), Esther Gathogo (Ruiru), John Kigo (Gatundu North) and Mburu Kahangara (Lari).
Ichungwa was the biggest winner polling 33,786 against 2,000 of his closest rival. Kuria also scored big pooling 24,578 against his challenger Joyce Ngugi who had 7,572.
Ng’ang’a put a spirited fight to win in Thika Town beating her closest rival with 1,000 votes. She had 15,880 votes while Patrick Wainaina had 14,731 votes.
Koinange pooled 17,890 votes to beat his challenger Kariri Jama who had 11,786.
In Limuru former area Mp Peter Mwathi made a comeback after he floored area Mp John Chege Kiragu after polling 18,456 to Kiragu’s 14,786.
Kiragu however has protested that the pool was rigged and vowed to petition the results.
Lari’s Mburu Kahangara lost to a new comer Jonnah Mburu who pooled 14,794 against his main challenger John Burugu who had 9,576 votes. Kahangara was a distant third with 7,342 votes.
Meanwhile, Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo and her Gatundu North counterpart Kigo Njenga lost the Jubilee primaries to newcomers.
Gathogo lost to Simon King’ara who bagged 14,988 votes to clinch the Jubilee ticket. She got 6,431 votes while nominated MP Isaac Mwaura was third with 4,858 votes.
In Gatundu North, Ms Kibe won the ticket with 10,169 votes against Kigo who got 9,589 votes. Former area MP Clement Waibara was a close third with 9,344 votes.
At the same time, MPs Moses Kuria Gatundu South), Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town) and Francis Munyua (Juja) captured the party ticket by beating their opponents in a hotly contested exercise.
