Rasanga beats Gumbo in Siaya governor seat ODM primaries

Siaya governor Cornel Rasanga has retained his gubernatorial seat after  after garnering 143,446 votes against his fiercest rival Nicholas Gumbo 87,467 in the just concluded Siaya County ODM primaries

According to Siaya county ODM Presiding Officer Mr Joshua Onyona  Mr Rasanga won in the polls that pitted him with Rarieda Mp Nicholas Gumbo , Former Regional Development PS Carey Orege and Businessman William Oduol.

Oduol  and Carey Orege garnered 9,535  and 1,908 respectively  in the highly contested primaries.

“I now declared the Governor Cornel Rasanga the winner of the contest after garnering 143,446 voted, he was followed closely by Nicholas Gumbo with 87,467 William Oduol came third with 9,535 and then mr Carey Orege who garnered 1,908 votes,” said Mr Onyona .

Onyona declared the results at the Siaya Institute of Science and Technology also declared Senator James Orengo and Dr Christine Ombaka as the winners of the Senate and women representative seats respectively.

Governor Rasanga who spoke to his supporters after he was announced the winner, thanked the residents for electing him to serve for a second term in office.

Rasanga asked the leaders who have failed in the nominations to shelve their political ambitions and work as a team in order to develop the county maintaining that he is ready to face them in the general elections.

“I am appealing to those who didn’t make it at the nomination to join me in ensuring that we development to the people of Siaya,” said Rasanga.

He also commended the Orange party of presiding over a peaceful nomination process adding that it is normal for few challenges to be witnessed in an election.

“Elections come and go but people remain, I am a reconciliatory leader who is dedicated to extend my arms to accommodate all leaders but I do not hold any political animosity with my opponents,” said Rasanga.

Dr Christine Ombaka floored her fiercest rival Mrs Florence Aluodo who came in second only managing 27,519 votes and Mrs Patricia Okudo 3,433 votes.
