Deputy President William Ruto yesterday campaigned in Ukambani where he sought to describe his opponent Raila Odinga as having neglected the region despite residents voting for him in the 2013 and 2017.
The DP used the rally to promote UDA and his “bottom-up” approach to development where he made over eight stops to address Kenyans in the county.
He highlighted projects initiated by the Jubilee administration, asking the crowd what Odinga had done for the region during his tenure as prime minister between 2008 and 2013.
“In Machakos County, we have tarmacked 350 kilometres of roads, installed medical equipment worth Sh1.2 billion at Machakos County Referral Hospital and Kangundo Sub-County Hospital, increased the number of households connected to electricity from 60,000 to 190, 000, and set up five new technical colleges,” Ruto said.
Meanwhile, Raila Odinga took his tour to Migori County where he had several meetings in Kuria region and later held a rally at Kehancha stadium.
Odinga called out the DP over the unsettled developments he promised to Kenyans deeming him incapable to deliver to Kenyans.
“He has been with Uhuru for 5 years now his done he is now claiming that the handshake has made the government not to go on with development,” he said.
“Amekuwa na Uhuru miaka mitano amemaliza; hii ingine anaanza kusema ati ooh, handshake. Handshake imezuia serikali kufanya kazi?”
The former prime minister accused Ruto of not owning up to his failures, adding that the DP has instead been blaming the Handshake for his shortcomings.
Odinga further criticized the DP following his huge donations at his rallies where he linked him to misappropriation of government funds and corruption allegations.
The two have been seen to go back and forth throwing allegations at each other criticizing delivery done when each was in office.
Campaigns seem to be on heat even before the actual date has been given by the electoral body.
