Police in Bungoma on Monday evening raided one of the homes in town and impounded Sh 4.6million in fake Kenyan currency.
Area police commander Charles Munyoli said his officers operating on a tip off from members of the public raided one of the hide ous t and impounded the fake money in one thousand shillings denominations.
The police chief said his officers managed also to arrest one suspect who will be arraigned in court after investigations are over.
‘Members of the public informed our officers that there was a certain hide out in town where people were doing transactions which were very unusual and that is how we managed to impound this fake money and arrest one person” said Munyoli.
He cautioned area residents to be more careful when doing their transactions especially with one thousand note claiming that the suspects might have circulated them in town before they were impounded.
”Am appealing to our people to be careful and should they come across a suspected one thousand note they should inform the police with immediate effect” he said.
Munyoli said the fake currency if allowed to be in circulation they may destroy not only the economy of Bungoma but also the whole country.
He said they will continue to carry out the raids claiming that the suspect might be having other accomplices who are yet to be nabbed.
