One of the wanted terror suspect on the list released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has surrendered to the police in Nyeri.
Robert Gathogo Ngunjiri alias Abdurahman Hija Mnubi, who lives in Baraka estate Kamakwa location in Nyeri was arrested yesterday.
His arrest came hours after the DCI released his name and photo describing him as armed and dangerous.
According to detectives, Gathogo was part of a criminal gang that used to terrorise Nyeri residents before he escaped to Somalia.
In 2016 he joined Al-Shabaab was reportedly dispatched back to Kenya to carry out attacks.
Gathongo was part of eight suspects recently listed by the DCI of devising terror plans against the country.
The others are; Kassim Musa Mwarusi aka Abu Miki, Mohamoud Abdi Aden aka Mohamed Yare, Peter Gichungu Njoroge aka Mustafa and Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir aka Ikrima.
Others are Erick Njoroge Wachira aka Mohamed Njoroge aka Moha, Abdurahman Hija aka Mnubi, Ahmed Ali Mohamed and Mohamed Ali Hussein.
“The suspects who are highly trained, armed and dangerous have been dispatched to the country to commit acts of terror,” stated DCI.
The suspects who are on the run or missing are understood to have been behind some of the recent sporadic attacks targeting security personnel and the civilians in parts of Lamu and Isiolo Counties.
“The team had been deployed to carry out an attack using a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) but the plan was disrupted after security personnel intercepted the VBIED and arrested three militants at MERTI area in ISIOLO County,” the agency said.
