An aspirant for Kiharu parliamentary seat wants the Jubilee party to refund the money he has used in his bid to get its ticket.
George Kamau said he used over Sh.1.5 million to prepare for the nomination exercise that was cancelled on Friday.
Addressing journalists in Murang’a town on Sunday, the aspirant said it was unfair for the party to conduct a shambolic exercise and expect aspirants to foot the costs of another nomination without the guarantee that it will be free and fair.
He said the exercise has made aspirants incur huge expenses and those who have financial constraints might not be able to participate in the second round.
“It would be very unfair for the party to cancel the exercise and expect us to foot the expenses of another exercise” he remarked.
“The party failed in making this exercise successful and it should take responsibility” he added.
He vowed to lead other aspirants to petition the party to refund their money as they seek alternative parties citing unfairness.
He pointed out that people had a lot of confidence in the party but they were disappointed by the turn of events.
Kamau expressed his fears that this might cause serious voters apathy in the second round of the nominations.
The aspirant said he will no longer be vying for seat using the Jubilee ticket pointing out that he shall look for an alternative party.
Kamau who resigned from his position as the executive in charge of Finance in the county government to vie for the seat accused the jubilee party of taking advantage of the support they get from locals to extort money from aspirants.
Murang’a County is predominantly a Jubilee zone and residents tend to vote for leaders affiliated to the President.
The parties which did not dissolve to form the Jubilee coalition such as Mzalendo Saba Saba ,are now smiling as well they seek to reap huge from defectors.
