President Uhuru Kenyatta has condemned the bandit attack in Laikipia where renowned conservationist Kuki Gallmann was shot and wounded by raiders on her ranch.
State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said the president was appalled by the turn of events in Lakipia and warned local politicians against inflaming temperatures through reckless rhetoric.
“Politicians encouraging invasions of privately-owned property or attacks on individuals can expect strong deterrent action in terms of the law,” he said in statement to newsrooms.
Addressing the press outside Harambee House today, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery said shooting of the proprietor of Laikipia Nature Conservancy Gallmann was an isolated banditry attack.
He said police have recovered an AK47 rifle suspected to have been used to commit the crime and submitted it to ballistic experts to establish if it is the actual weapon used.
“The Laikipia and Baringo operation is going on well as planned. We have removed all illegal grazers from the area. Kuki’s shooting was an isolated banditry attack. Some people have been arrested and a weapon recovered.”Nkaissery said yesterday.
Kuki was patrolling her ranch on Sunday morning when she was shot by the herders who had laid an ambush at Damu Nyekundu area.
She was first rushed to a Nanyuki based hospital for emergency treatment before being airlifted to Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi where she is admitted.
In statement to newsrooms, Esipisu confirmed Gallmann has been airlifted to Nairobi for medical attention and she is in a stable condition.
