Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga turned 77 today with a grand birthday party planned at the Bomas of Kenya.
Odinga marked the party with a 5-tier cake that represents the important phases the country has undergone since 1964.
While addressing the attendees, he vowed to work with youth as he urged them to participate in his army.
“I want to work with the youths of this country; wherever you move go with the message that on 9th august this year will be the day of transformation,” he said.
This year, all indications are that he will be running on an Azimio La Umoja ticket, a coalition party that is currently in its formative stages against his main opponent Deputy President William Ruto.
This years contest is shaping up to be a two horse race.
However, the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) bringing together Musalia Mudavadi (Amaani National Congress), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Party), Senator Gideon Moi (Kanu) and Senator Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) have vowed to front one candidate as a third force to reckon with.
‘’I have been to many countries and what I am saying is possible. We can transform this country and make it an industrialized country. We must change the way we do things and how we approach development in our country,” he said.
Odinga is currently leader of the official opposition keen to ensure the full and proper implementation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the promotion of democratic ideals and the protection of equity and justice in our society.
He also received birthday wishes from Ruto, among other political leaders.
The DP took to his official Twitter account to wish his 2022 presidential race rival who turned 77 today a happy birthday.
“Happy birthday Jakom. May you be blessed with many more,” wrote the DP.
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici also wished him a happy birthday, one day to his 77th birthday raising speculations if she had joined the pro-Kenyatta and Odinga’s side especially after leaving Ruto’s camp.
“Happy Birthday Jakom,” she posted on her Facebook page.
