The Nairobi County Governor Ann Kananu has extended the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) contract by six months.
The two-year contract between the Nairobi County Government and NMS was set to expire in February this year but will now run until August 2022.
Kananu along with County Secretary Jairus Musumba signed the extension of the Deed of Transfer of Functions yesterday at the Devolution Ministry.
“To address the speculations that are happening concerning the extension of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services. I want to put on record that I extended their contract for six months because I did not want them to leave their projects uncompleted. So, I have given them six months to ensure all the projects they started are completed,” she said.
The Deed of Transfer of Functions was signed in February 2020 by the then Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
Justus Kathenge who was the Acting County Secretary also signed it.
The extension means that the Major General Mohamed Badi-led NMS will be in charge of the county’s major functions until a new governor is elected after general elections.
