Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has officially announced that he will vie for the Nairobi Senate seat in 2022.
Sifuna announced his candidature on his social media pages today seeking to replace Johnson Sakaja, who has expressed interest in the Governor seat next year.
He said he will be casting his vote at Loresho Primary School in Westlands Constituency, Nairobi.
“I will henceforth vote at Loresho Primary School in Westlands Constituency,” he said.
“I will be vying for the Nairobi County Senatorial seat in 2022 on an ODM ticket.”
Sakaja declared his interest to vie for Nairobi Governor’s seat in next year’s general election maintaining that he will not step down in favour of any other candidate.
In 2017, Sakaja had also declared interest in the seat but stepped down in support of the former Nairobi County boss Mike Sonko.
According to Tifa polls, Sakaja is the most popular Nairobi governor aspirant with 30 per cent support.
He is closely followed by Woman Representative Esther Passaris with 11 per cent and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi at six per cent.
However, 24 per cent of the sample population are undecided about their preferred candidate.
Impeached Governor Mike Sonko had two per cent popularity, while Nairobi Metropolitan Services boss Mohamed Badi had one per cent backing.
Bishop Margaret Wanjiru who is also eyeing the governor slot, had five per cent popularity, while businesswoman Agnes Kagure had four per cent.
