The Law society of Kenya (LSK) and Political Parties Dispute Tribunal have called for internal party dispute resolution mechanisms during the on-going primaries.
Millie Luang’a, a member of the Political Parties Tribunal said a proper internal dispute resolution mechanism within political parties was mandatory to ensure smooth running of the parties.
By solving disputes internally, she said political parties shall make the work of the tribunal easier and reduce a backlog of cases pending in court adding that it was important for political parties to adhere to laid down regulations during the ongoing nominations and general elections.
Speaking in Kisumu today during a meeting sponsored by UNDP to sensitize various stakeholders on the need to embrace internal dispute resolution, Luang’a called for transparency within political parties to avoid unnecessary disagreements that could disrupt peace during the electioneering period.
She emphasized that matters regarding political parties must be solved within three months adding that since the period of party primaries coming to an end and general elections are due the cases must be determined within the next 7 days.
