Police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay county are holding a pastor who allegedly defiled and impregnated a 16-year-old girl while purporting to be praying for her.
The class seven pupil, who has since reportedly given birth to twins, is said to have been lured by the pastor who disguised himself by ‘praying for her’ to get cured of epilepsy.
After defiling the girl, the pastor went into hiding for six months but was nabbed yesterday in Goyo.
“I got a tip that the clergyman had returned to his home and thereafter I mobilized local security officials with whom we raided the home,” said Kajwang’ Location Acting Chief Enos Nyawade.
The clergy man is said to have caused a scene when the police arrived, praying to God to perform a miracle so that he could escape an arrest.
He will be arraigned and answer to charges of defilement.
President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday called on Kenyans to publicly shame rapists and defilers.
Speaking in Nakuru, where he led the country in marking World Aids Day, Kenyatta said jail alone won’t help curb the sexual assult.
He has also discouraged cross-generational relationships involving elderly men and underage girls.
The President said most STDs, including HIV, contracted by the young girls are, in most cases, passed on by the “sugar daddies”.
“Before you date an underage girl, ask yourself whether your actions are dignified. Men, date women of your age!” he said.
