Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was yesterday nominated the party’s presidential flag bearer during the 2022 general elections.
Kalonzo was endorsed in an event that saw Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo’s One Kenya Alliance co-principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Gideon Moi (Kanu), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Cyrus Jirongo share a platform.
Speaking during the Wiper National Delegates Conference held at Kasarani stadium in Nairobi, Kalonzo emphasized that under his government there will be no room for corruption and the thieves will have no place to hide.
“In my government there will be no room for the corrupt, they will be all put in jail and the money they stole returned to public coffers,” Musyoka assured.
The Wiper leader took a swipe at some government officials who have been perpetuating corruption by using the gains of their evil dealings in luring innocent citizens, he cautioned Kenyans against such leaders.
“Thieves have been running around the country masquerading as saviour
while crucifying our children’s future at the altar of corruption,” he said.
While pledging to restore faith of in good governance and economic
progress, Kalonzo said he will ensure 24-hour economic model becomes reality.
“A 24-hour plan with three shifts of eight hours each is an additional 16 hours to a conventional working day. This will definitely create millions of jobs for the unemployed,” Kalonzo added.
In addition he emphasized on the need to have free secondary education across the country, which he termed as an “equalizer in the society” saying it will be at the top of his government agenda.
Furthermore, reviewing taxation and fostering agricultural were featured prominently in his five point agenda.
Raila described Kalonzo as a reliable leader, recalling their times in Kenya’s oldest party KANU.
”We have been with Kalonzo for a long time since the days of KANU. I say congratulations to Kalonzo for being nominated as the party presidential flag bearer,” Raila said.
“I am sure what Kalonzo wants is what Raila wants. Going forward our roads will meet again. Come December 9, 2021 I will speak.”
Moi congratulated Kalonzo on his endorsement terming him as a selfless leader.
“We recognize the contributions of Kalonzo Musyoka as a selfless leader who put the country before self at very defining epochs of our country. We congratulate him on his unanimous endorsement as Wiper’s presidential candidate,” Gideon said.
Jirongo said there is need to address taxation in this country as punitive tax regimes hinder economic growth.
“There is no country in this world which has ever developed out of taxing its people. Countries exploit their natural resources and create wealth for their people,” Jirongo said.
Raphael Tuju, Jubilee Secretary General on his part said the unity of the leading political leaders in Kalonzo’s nomination is a great beackon of hope to Kenyan politics.
“There is hope when you see Gideon Moi, Mudavadi, Wetangula, Ngilu and Raila together. If they all decide to support Kalonzo this matter will be over and done with,” Tuju said.
