Migori county government workers union has suspended a strike that was scheduled to commence after the county government paid them Sh 5million which is part of the Sh134Million demanded by the workers.
The county government workers union executive secretary. Baraza Nguka said they met the county secretary Mr. Christopher Rosana and other county government officials and they also promised to release additional Sh58Million before the end of the financial years 2016/2017.
Mr.Nguka said they county government has so far released Sh19Million and now remains Sh58Million to add up to Sh67Million which should be paid in the first phases before the end of the financial years according to the agreement made last year.
He added that the remaining Sh67Million should be paid in the second phase that is the financial year 2017/2018.
His remarks were echoed by his chairman Mr. Charles Opiyo who said they are waiting to see the commitment by the county government before the end of June 2017.
Mr.Opiyo said they will take the next action in case the county government fails to honor the agreement.
