Kisumu County police arrested over Ruto stonning incident in Kondele

A Kisumu County Inspectorate officer has been arrested for allegedly leading a group rioters that stoned Deputy President William Ruto’s convoy in Kondele last week.

Wilson Aminda, is believed to have led a mob that stoned Ruto’s convoy during his campaign tour to Nyanza.

His arrest comes after the police blamed Ruto for failing to heed police advice about tension in Kondole before he made the stopover.

According to police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, they had received intelligence of tension in Kondole area over the alleged distribution of campaign funds among local groups.

Shioso added that the intelligence was promptly shared with the DP’s team with a recommendation to skip the area.

“During the rally, violence erupted amongst the local agitated groups who engaged in stone-throwing and other unruly behavior,” Bruno said.

Ruto accused his rivals of hiring youth to throw stones saying Kisumu is also Kenya.

“Kisumu is Kenya. We will make sure we’ve redeemed Kisumu from throwing stones,” said Ruto.

However, Raila Odinga denied any involvement in the fracas.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station, the former Premier refuted claims that he had sponsored the chaos distancing himself and his party from the incident.

“I am not a kid to go and organise people to throw stones at Ruto, why would I do that? Ruto is beneath me,” Raila said.

Ruto, who was on a three-day-visit to Nyanza region, was forced to cancel yet another rally, this time in Migori, after the gathering turned chaotic.

No major casualty was reported however, seven vehicles in Ruto’s convoy were damaged.
