Murang’a county commissioner John Elungata has assured the residents that no violence shall be witnessed on Friday during the nomination exercise.
Elungata said an impression has been created that the area shall be chaotic and this has in return sparked a wave of fear among the locals.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, the commissioner said the security team is keen to oversee a peaceful process and maintain order thereafter.
He said all the necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure the party shall have the chance to carry out its activities smoothly.
He said they are working closely with the nomination board to have all the security logistics put in place.
“A lot of things have been said about this specific day but I want to assure the locals that we are ready to deliver efficient services of security to them” he remarked.
“There is nothing to fear in the heated contest which is being anticipated to be chaotic because we have managed to maintain peace to this far, we still can do it even then” he added.
Elungata also urged the aspirants to create an environment that will give credibility to the exercise.
“Aspirants should be on the fore front in preaching peace and warn their supporters against causing chaos” he said.
He threw a caution to those who have planned to cause any disruption saying that shall be dealt with appropriately.
“What we want to nib in the bud is any likely disruption of the people’s daily activities and we won’t allow anybody to break the law” he added.
His sentiments were echoed by Murang’a county commander Naomi Ichami who said there shall be adequate deployment of police officers in all the polling stations.
Ichami also said there have been increased patrols on the ground, and this shall go on even after the nominations.
“We are keen to monitor every activity on the ground and we won’t allow any mischief from either the aspirants or their supporters” she remarked.
She also said anybody who feels their security has been compromised or has been threatened should report to the police immediately to get the necessary assistance.
