Mediheal Group of Hospitals Chief Executive Officer Dr Swarup Mishra popularly known as Kiprop was today hospitalized in critical condition at a private health facility in Eldoret after supporters of his main political rival attacked him and five of his key campaign managers.
Mishra suffered serious injuries on the neck and the body during the incident which occurred at Royaltone hotel situated along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway where he had converged with his campaign team to plan on his last meet the people tour propgramme in his bid for Kesses parliamentary seat on Jubilee Party ticket a head of the party’s Friday nominations.
The other victims of political related violence were also admitted in the same hospital with legs and head injuries meted against them by youths linked to Allan Kosgey who is the fiercest opponent of Mishra.
Speaking to the press at the hospital, Mishra’s chief campaign manager Joe Kirwa said they had assembled at the hotel in morning when suddenly , supporters of Allan clad in his T-shirts stormed the venue of their meeting.
He said the more than thirty youth armed with crude weapons and stones went straight to where Mishra was seating and started hit him on the stomach and the neck before he fell down.
“They overpowered our security and that is when we decided to call for police reinforcement who arrived in time and quelled the violence which had degenerated into a fist fight between our agents and
supporters of Allan,” said Kirwa.
He said Allan was feeling the heat over his quest to clinch the party ticket and that he has now resorted to use violence in a scheme to force Mishra to drop out of the race a head of party nomination
slated for Friday.
