Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has explained her decision to join Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with Ruto at his Karen residence, Waiguru said she consulted and was directed towards UDA.
According to the County chief, everybody in politics must be very careful to stay relevant and listen to the people.
”The bible says when you lack wisdom you ask for it. I have asked for wisdom I think I have listened and checked with many members seated here, I have checked with others who are not here and others who are still in Jubilee but have not declared that they are moving,” she said.
Waiguru said that Kirinyaga people spoke their minds during Mashujaa day celebrations and she listened.
She was accompanied by 25 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and also present was the County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi.
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici welcomed Waiguru to the party.
“UDA house is a big house. She is welcome,” she posted on her Facebook page.
Waiguru had recently indicated that she might join UDA, a decision she said is based on her constituents’ needs.
Addressing a roadside gathering at Thiba area in Mwea, Kirinyaga County on September 22, Waiguru said voters were piling pressure on her to defect from the ruling party to UDA.
“I ask you my brothers and sisters, because I’m told you will reelect me, which party should I use?” posed Waiguru.
“If I vie on that party ticket, will you reelect me come 2022? I will say, about my move, that I followed the will of my constituents.”
Waiguru said she will follow the political path of the majority residents who have been leaning towards UDA.
The Governor’s defection presents political battle between her and Kirinyaga County Woman Rep Purity Ngirici who is intrested in vying for Kirinyaga gubernatorial race.
