Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said that Ukambani region needs new political leadership.
In a statement, Mutua took a swipe at Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who has served for long in positions of power, yet he has nothing to show in terms of development.
He said Kalonzo has no development to show for the 36-years he has worked in government, however, he has continued to drive the community to languish in poverty, underdevelopment and political desperation.
“Thirty Six (36) years for Kalonzo is not yesterday. It is closer to the time that dictators like the late Robert Mugabe stayed in power. Sadly, there is little to show by Hon Kalonzo Musyoka except the positions he has held,” read part of the statement.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader accused Kalonzo of using power, positions, disruptions and waging the tribal card for himself while doing very little for the people who have kept him at the national table.
Citing the concluded by-elections for Nguu/Masumba Ward, Mutua said Ukambani residents were progressively moving towards political liberation.
Mutua said Ukambani region needs a new leadership that focuses on water, tarmac roads, employment, financial empowerment, among others.
He called upon Governor Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), senators, MPs, religious leaders and professionals to liberate Ukambani residents from the yoke of mind control.
“…The times have shifted and I am calling upon my fellow leaders including Governor Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui), senators, MPs, religious leaders and professionals to now have the strength to free our people from the yoke of mind control where they have been told to remain poor and proud,” Mutua charged.
In the Makueni County by-elections, the Wiper candidate, Eshio Mwaiwa came third after being defeated by Independent Candidate, Timothy Maneno and UDA’s Daniel Musau.
Kalonzo was first elected as Kitu North MP during a by-election in 1985.
In that time span, he has served as a Cabinet Secretary under both former presidents Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
He was Kibaki’s Vice President between 2008 and 2013.
Despite such a long time in public office, his critics claim there is no development project.
