Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu’s reelection bid got a major boost after it received support from teachers affiliated to the powerful Kenya National Union of Teachers Union.
The teachers who were hosted at the governor’s official resident in Nanyuki pledged to support his re election so that he can complete projects he has already initiated.
The Laikipia branch Knut Executive secretary Jackson Thangei announced that he had vetted all the seven gubernatorial aspirants and settled on the incumbent urging teachers to rally behind Irungu.
“I have been looking at all the manifestos by all the aspirants and I have come to the conclusion that Irungu still has the upper hand and I urge all of you to support him,” Noted Thangei
The over two thousand teachers gave praises on Irungu’s administration but called for more projects if he is reelected.
However Irungu said that they had invited the teachers to sensitize on the importance of participating in the party primaries scheduled for 21.
He noted that teachers are very important in the society and are seen as opinion leaders and would educate many on the need to come out in large numbers during the exercise.
