A section of political leaders from Mount Kenya Region have elected National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) leader, Martha Karua as their spokesperson.
Karua was unanimously elected to negotiate on behalf of the region in a consultative meeting held in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
She stated that the forum was formed to champion the interests of the Mt Kenya region beyond the 2022 general elections noting that it would be served to all presidential candidates seeking votes in the region.
“It will be presented not only to presidential candidates but also to other agencies that may have a bearing; security, revenue sharing. This is beyond the presidential race, it is about permant community of interest and permanent issues that need to be addressed,” Karua stated.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was among the leaders in attendance seconded Karua’s sentiments, dismissing any allegations of the region having an ulterior motive ahead of the 2022 general polls.
“I want to say this for avoidance of doubt, that this forum has today, unanimously choses Martha Karua to be our official spokesperson on interim basis,” Gatundu Member of Parliament Moses Kuria stated.
This comes after Karua, Kuria and Kiunjuri met and resolved to form a caucus ahead of the General Election.
Karua said they were commited to work together on issues affecting the Mt Kenya region and the nation irrespective of their political affiliation.
