As the hunger and drought situation continues to bite in most parts of the country, West Pokot county government has launched the disbursement of relief food to hunger stricken families.
The deputy governor West Pokot Mr Titus Lotee said that the first 4000 bags will go to the most affected wards within the county, that is Lomut, Kiwawa, Alale, Kasei, weiwei and Tapach wards and the other remaining 2000 to other areas.
He added that the drought has hit hard the county and that they are doing everything possible to ensure that no resident will die due to hunger and that no school will be closed due to the drought and hunger.
He challenged those criticizing the county government as ill advised and that they have all planned to ensure that every vulnerable family is fed.
Lotee however said that no one should mistake them in food distribution for campaigns as he alleges that their opponents may capitalize on exploding the exercise.
Present during the launching of the exercise, the area governor Simon Kachapin appealed to the national government through the devolution ministry for more food to all hunger stricken regions in the country to avert any lose of lives.
Kachapin however took a swipe on the Principle Secretary Treasury and Finance for releasing funds and publishing a day after that counties have not utilized funds.
The county leadership said that they will round to ensure that long term measures are put in place to prevent perennial drought and hunger.
West Pokot has thousands of its residents facing a cute shortage of food.
