A doctor is among seven people who have been arrested for participating in illegal vaccination activities in the country.
Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache said that the seven were arrested in an incident where some politicians in Murang’a colluded with health workers to steal Covid-19 vaccines and administer them in a health camp, contrary to laid down procedures.
Mochache noted that the Ministry of Health are working very closely with the relevant government agencies to make sure the vaccination drive is according to the vaccination regulation.
“Certain politicians have mobilised vaccination drive. So together with other government agencies, we are happy to report that at least seven people have been arrested…one of them being a medical doctor,” she said.
She lauded the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council for the swift action which led to the revocation of the vaccination license for the Ruai Family Hospital.
KMPDC Chief Executive Officer Daniel Yumbya, the council’s Ethics and Disciplinary committee had found that RFH nurse Ruth Matitika took 144 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and handed them to one Caroline Kinyanjui.
“Ruth Matika admitted to taking 144 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and handed them to Caroline Kinyanjui, the alleged Business Development Manager, outside the hospital premises on the evening of Friday, August 27, 2021, until when they reconvened at 11 am the following day Saturday 28 August, 2021, when they carried out the vaccination exercise in Murang’a county,” stated the council.
The committee also found that the hospital however reported the doses missing on August 29, 2021 at 8:34pm.
Mochache called on Kenyans to be vigilant and report any illegal vaccination activities to the ministry through hot line number 719.
She at the same time expressed optimism that the government will achieve its target of vaccinating 10 million Kenyans by December this year, following the arrival of multiple vaccines in the country.
Mochache was speaking when receiving 358,200 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from Canadian Government which will be a boost for the second vaccination.
Over 3.6 million vaccines have been received as of today.
