A campaign meeting hosted by Senator Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ and Nakuru county speaker Susan Kihika in Mai Mahiu Naivasha was temporally disrupted after a youths threw a bottle at the dais.
During the Sunday evening incident, the bottle narrowly missed the senator before tens of youths turned to the suspect beating him before police moved in to contain the situation.
Sonko had joined Kihika who is seeking the position of Nakuru Senator in her campaigns when the suspect said to be drunk interrupted the well-attended meeting.
According to a witness Joseph Njoroge, the suspect first threw a stone on the convoy but this went unnoticed.
He added that the youth turned to a soda bottle which he threw at the lorry where the senator and the speaker were addressing the crowd from.
“This time round he was spotted and tens of youths who were offering security turned their fury on him beating him seriously before he was taken to the police station,” he said.
A senior police officer who declined to be named said that the suspect who was bleeding profusely from various parts of the body was first taken to the local health center for treatment.
“The suspect received serious injuries and so far no one has come to record a statement with us over the incident,” said the officer.
