The Ministry of Education has raised concern over drug lords carrying out illicit and dangerous activities in public universities in the country.
The ministry attributed the increase in the number of indiscipline cases in the learning institutions to drugs that are now being taken in the open.
According to the CS in the Ministry Dr. Fred Matiang’I, the issue was of concern noting that it was a threat to national security.
Matiang’I pointed to Maseno University where such cases have lately been reported and called for full investigations.
He directed vice chancellors of all public universities to institute integrated learning systems that will be able to closely monitor their students.
“I have directed through the Commission for university Education (CUE) for full investigations in such cases especially at Maseno where cases of students fighting in their hostels is rampant”.
“We need to know where they live and conditions they sleep in and by so doing we will weed out these cartels destroying the future of our innocent kids”.
Matiang’I was speaking during the opening of an induction workshop for newly appointed public university council members at Simba Lodge in Naivasha.
