The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has cleared Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over claims that he illegally acquired land in Yatta, Machakos County.
This is after he presented himself at the DCI headquarters yesterday for questioning over the 200 acre land.
According to a report by DCI, the land in question is owned by a company associated with Kalonzo.
“That the subject property is privately owned by Pastev Holdings Limited after buying from a company known as Betraco Limited,” stated the report.
Kalonzo launched an attack on Deputy President William Ruto, who had claimed Kalonzo grabbed the land.
He claimed Ruto hurt his reputation when he accused him of illegally acquiring the land.
“On January 22, 2021, I presented myself to the DCI regarding the acquisition of Yatta farm. This was in response to allegations made about me by the Chief Priest of corruption that I had illegally acquired it. All relevant documentation required to investigate this matter thoroughly was availed to the DCI,” he stated.
“The truth illuminated itself, and the lie has been exposed. The DCI has found zero evidence of wrongdoing on my part. We don’t intend to leave this matter here, because my rights as a Kenyan citizen were violated by this pronouncement.”
Kalonzo said Ruto was the least qualified person to accuse anyone of graft and challenged him to explain the source of his wealth.
He said he will focus on Ruto and his alleged activities, which he termed questionable.
“Some people are invoking the name of God to hoodwink Kenyans and must be stopped. If we make a mistake and allow these characters near to power, we will make a mistake,” he said.
He also called for the lifestyle audit to be made compulsory on all leaders in the country seeking elective seats.
Kalonzo said that if elected President, he will ensure that the lifestyle audit becomes a prerequisite all government appointments.
“Kenyans must be wise and seek clarity from vote seekers about real truths. Truths about their possessions’ and their public service track records,” he said.
Kalonzo was accompanied by his lawyers’ Senators James Orengo and Mutula Kilonzo Junior.
Ruto had accused Kalonzo of doing nothing during his 40 years in government apart from illegally acquiring the Yatta land.
“You have been in leadership for 40 years without doing anything and your only record is that you are living on government land, which you have turned to be yours,” the DP said.
However, Kalonzo termed the claims as wild and desperate propaganda, describing himself as a person of high moral and ethical standards.
“I have nothing to hide and I challenge the authorities to open an investigation into this matter. I am today presenting myself for investigation by the DCI as well as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission,” Kalonzo said.
