The Government is addressing teachers’ shortages in schools in an effort to ensure quality education.
According to Government Spokesman Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, the gradual recruitment will continue until all vacancies are filled.
“Routine recruitment to replace those who exited the profession through natural attrition and other ways would continue noting that a similar recruitment was currently underway,” he said.
He said the government was keen on ensuring quality education without compromise as it takes steps to ensure that all youths got a sound education cognizant of the fact that the young people are the foundation of the nation.
The Government Spokesman noted that equipping the youth with quality education was key to ensuring the country had an innovative cadre whose creativity and problem solving is critical in helping the country reach a middle income economy with high quality life as envisioned in Vision 2030.
The Spokesperson made the remarks at the ACK Gitare Mixed Secondary School in Embu during the institution’s Mentorship Day where he was the chief guest speaker.
He said while the government made all the investments in education to secure the youth’s future, the beneficiaries also need to play their part to ensure that initiative does not go to waste.
“The youth need to establish what they want to be and then chart a pathway to reach that goal avoiding distractions that may derail their dreams,” he said.
He cautioned that presently, the youth have a variety of entertainment options such as video games, TV and social media that are bound to take up all their time depriving them the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
The school’s Board of management Chairman Mr. Antony Muriithi said the mentorship program was one of the ways the institution was helping their students to have a purpose for their education.
The government continues to implement the 100 per cent transition rate from primary to secondary schools.
