Deputy President William Ruto has asked politicians to stop insulting ordinary Kenyans.
This comes after Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga dismissed the bottom-up economic proposal stating that those who were leading the push were misleading Kenya’s youth.
Speaking today when he met more than 1,000 grassroot leaders from Kiambu at his Karen residence, Ruto said even with the insults, the conversation is now robustly leaning on the uplifting of mama mbogas, bodabodas, matatu operators and their daily hustles.
“It is possible to conduct the politics that unites our country. Let us join hands and salvage our country from the altar of tribal politics,” he explained.
Ruto noted that Kenya’s politics was shifting to a new path that was keen on the economy and some politicians are finding it hard to adjust in the strange territory.
“They are used to talking about leaders, positions, power and the change of the Constitution. That is why they are now engaging in abusing Hustlers,” Ruto said.
MPs present were Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), George Koimburi (Juja), John Wanjiku (Kiambaa), John Mutunga (Tigania West), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a), John Kiarie (Dagoretti South) and George Kariuki (Ndia).
Speaking at the home of the late Nginyo Kariuki’s son, Raila said the only way to improve the economy is through supporting local investors to ensure continuous circulation of money within the country.
Raila citing the introduction of vision 2030 and Uchumi Mashinani models during the leadership of retired president Mwai Kibaki, which he said were aimed at making Kenya a middle income Country, while at the same time instilling profitable skills among the youth.
Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader and Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua who was in the company of Raila called on Kenyans to sieve leaders based on their development track record.
Mutua said many of the people who have expressed desire to run for president in 2022 have nothing to show for achievements during the period they were in power.
He also cautioned against leaders who lack a stand and are always switching camps.
Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth said for Kenya to attain it glory on Economy better policies should be put into place rather than politicians misleading it residents.
He called upon the Mountain to support Odinga on his bid for President comes 2022.
