Twenty-five children from Kieni East Sub County who went missing from two schools under mysterious circumstances have been rescued by CID and Children department officers at a three storey building in Kariobangi.
The minors from different primary schools in Kieni East sub county went missing a fortnight ago after two ladies pretending to run a Non Governmental Organization based in Nairobi said they would assist pupils from poor backgrounds at a fee of sh 3000.
Nyeri County children officer, Kungu Mwaniki said the pupils were found in a pathetic state with no learning materials adding that boys were forced to sleep on the floor.
The minors were transferred from Nairobi to Nyeri Remand Children’s home awaiting to be re united with their families after interrogations and assement of the conditions they were living in or whether they were subjected to torture or forced labour.
Kungu also said it is not clear what the motive of the ladies was saying that the matter is in the hands of the police for further investigation.
He also cautioned parents and guardians against handing their children to strangers.
