Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has been removed as Kilifi Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairperson over disloyalty.
Party leader Raila Odinga has replaced him with Ganze Legislator Teddy Mwambire as he cracks whip to dissents in a move to assert authority within the party hierarchy.
Kingi took to his official Twitter account and accepted his removal as the party’s boss in Kilifi adding he was grateful for the opportunity given to him by ODM to serve.
“I steered the party to great success and made sure the Party (ODM) became the dominant party in Kilifi County, a fact that was confirmed during the last general election,” he said.
Kingi is also accused of pushing for the formation of a regional political party.
In March, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Coast governors held a meeting to heightening talks of formation of a regional party.
It emerged that Kingi was ready to launch his party while he and Hassan Joho Kwale were hosted by Governor Salim Mvurya at his office to discuss the formation of four Coast fringe parties.
During the tour of the Coast region to market the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Kingi told Raila that their time to form the regional party was long overdue adding that they would go ahead with the outfit that would carry the aspirations of the six counties.
However, Raila discouraged the region from going the regional party route, claiming that the idea was outdated and those pushing for it were falling into the trap of tribalism.
Kingi is reportedly linked to Pamoja Alliance (PAA) that was given provisional certificates on July 30.
PAA was initially the name of the proposed coalition of four Coast fringe parties but talks collapsed after differences emerged on whether to have a merger or a coalition.
Kingi was for the merger while the officials of the parties wanted a coalition.
Officials of one of the parties, Kadu-Asili, termed PAA registration as an independent entity a betrayal, given that talks to unite the Coast political outfits under it were going on.
