Kiambu Governor William Kabogo will retain his seat by flooring his main challenger Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu in the August 8 General Elections if elections be held today.
Findings of an Infotrak opinion poll indicated that Kabogo stands a chance of garnering 48.9 per cent of the votes against Waititu’s 31.8 per cent.
Releasing the findings in Nairobi today, Infotrak director Angela Ambitho said that other competitors – James Nyoro and David Ngari (Gakuyo) would scoop 4.5 per cent and 1 per cent respectively.
The survey was conducted between April 3-5 and targeted 1,200 respondents to represent the projected adult population of 1.2 million Kiambu dwellers.
The political realignments have seen an alliance dubbed “United for Kiambu” gang up together and endorse Waititu to lock horns with Kabogo during the Jubilee primaries.
Recently, Reverend Ngari, businessman Nyoro, trader John Mugwe and businesswoman Aquiline Njoki dropped their bid and fronted Waititu for the top seat.
The study also shows that the incumbent Senator Kimani Wamatangi would garner 48.8 per cent followed by Karungo Wa Thang’wa and George Nyanja at 7.7 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively.
Radio personality Gathoni Wa Muchomba would easily beat Women’s Representative Anne Nyokabi by getting 41.7 per cent of the total votes against Nyokabi’s 15.5 per cent.
In his tour recent tour to the county, President Uhuru Kenyatta, said he would neither endorse any aspirant for a political seat nor push for issuance of direct Jubilee nomination certificates.
Accompanied by Kabogo, Waititu and other aspirants in his tour to Ruaka, Banana, Wangige and Kikuyu towns, Uhuru called for peaceful and transparent primaries, saying that the process should mirror the will of the people.
“We do not have the right to dictate to you on the leader that you should nominate. You have the democratic right to wisely choose from the MCA to the president. Personally, I will receive my certificate after the primaries are over,” said Uhuru.
The Jubilee primaries have been slated for April 21 this month and political temperatures are expected to flare up in other Jubilee zones like Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Embu, Narok, Samburu, Bomet and Tharaka Nithi.
