Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has removed Ezekiel Mutua as the film board Chief Executive Officer.
This is after an internal memo from KFCB acting Chief Manager, Paskal Opiyo stated that Christopher Wambua will hold the CEO position in acting capacity.
“Kindly accord him (Wambua) the necessary support,” read the memo.
Mutua had earlier refuted claims that he has been fired.
In his twitter account, Mutua said he was not aware of any such development and the reports cannot be true.
“My attention has been drawn to reports on social media to the effect that I have been fired as CEO of KFCB. Please ignore such malicious rumours. I am not aware of such developments and there can be no grain of truth in them as there’s no vacancy in the office of the CEO KFCB,” he tweeted.
His statement came after Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior tweeted that Mutua had been unlawfully dismissed from the Board.
“Ezekiel Mutua unlawfully removed by CS Mucheru as CEO after being lawfully appointed by the Board. Laws are mere suggestions for this administration,” he tweeted.
Mutua has been at the helm of KFCB for six years.
He is touted as the moral cop who is never shy to condemn what does not go in line with good morals, censoring films and songs with obscene content.
