Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has decried the surge in murder and rape of children, girls and women.
He has called on the law enforcement agencies to arrest killers of women and children.
In a press statement, Raila expressed concerns that brutality against women is becoming a new normal in the country.
“Too many children girls and women have in recent times suffered gruesome death at the hands of people who should be their protectors. Children are being plucked from playgrounds, on their way to school, homes and in places of worship. Girls and women are being killed by supposed lovers, husbands and even parents. This turn of events is completely unacceptable,” he said.
The ODM leader noted that the police must assure Kenyans that they are safe and that no more children or women will suffer the same under their watch.
He added that the Judiciary must also assure Kenyans that justice will be served swiftly and fairly in cases where lives have been senselessly lost, adding that delayed justice only makes perpetrators bolder.
“The Judiciary must also assure Kenyans that justice will come swiftly and fairly where lives have been senselessly lost. Justice is taking too long to come if it ever does for the victims. The delays only prolong the pain and make beasts bolder,” he said.
“This is not the country we wish for our children, especially our daughters and sisters. Yet slowly but steadily, this brutality is becoming a new normal, just another news item in our country.”
He called on Kenyans to speak out loudly against the slaughter of children and gender-based violence.
He says the gruesome murders and horrific violence meted out to women and children should not be treated as personal or family matters.
His statement comes from the rampant surge in the murders and rape of children, girls and women in the country.
Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a 20-year-old man accused of abducting and killing 12 children.
Masten Milimo Wanjala confessed to kidnapping and slaughtering at least ten innocent children.
He is said to have single handedly massacred his victims in the most callous manner, sometimes through sucking blood from their veins before executing them.
In another case, Evans Juma Wanjala, a serial killer who has brutally murdered five young girls after assaulting and defiling them was arrested.
Wanjala, who procured the heinous murders between December 31, 2019 and June 15, 2021,first defiled his victims before strangling them to death.
The minors all aged between the age of 10 and 15 were lured by the suspect from different locations within Moi’s Bridge in Uasin-Gishu county, before being taken to secluded areas where he defiled and strangled them.
