One person was killed and two others injured after a light aircraft crashed yesterday in Ndabibi in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority(KCAA) has confirmed that an aircraft registration number 5Y-BCL, owned and operated by Desert Locust, crashed with three on board.
KCAA Director General Gilbert Kibe said they shall keep Kenyans updated once they get more information about the accident.
“We shall keep you updated once we get more information about the accident,” said the authority.
The other two were rushed to the Ndabibi Health Centre and later transferred to Naivasha.
Nakuru County Commander Beatrice Kiraguri who confirmed the incident, said the plane was on a locust monitoring mission from Wilson Airport, headed for Lodwar, Turkana County and onwards to Ethiopia.
“The accident claimed the life of the co-pilot while the pilot and one passenger on board survived with serious injuries and are currently recuperating at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital,” she said.
Kiraguri said preliminary investigations showed the aircraft crashed following poor weather in the area, thereby affecting the pilot’s visibility.
This is the second plane crash this year in the country after a military chopper crashed in Ngong, Kajiado County claiming eleven lives of Kenya Air Force (KAF) soldiers.
A total of 23 passengers boarded the plane and 12 other officers, who are said to have jumped from the plane when it was almost crashing, sustained injuries and were admitted to Kenya Defense Forces Memorial Hospital.
