President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed all the governors to pay doctors salaries for the three months that they were on strike, but warned to sack them if they downed their tools again.
Speaking during a tour to Kiambu County today, the irate President vowed to crack whip on doctors who will paralyze healthcare services in public health facilities.
Uhuru said Kenyans have the right to access quality healthcare and that they deserve to get value for tax that they remit to the government.
“I swear before the living God and before you that if they strike again, we will sack them. If you dare strike again and I happen to be the president of this country, you will go home,” said Uhuru.
The Head of State added: “We will pay your salaries for the days lost but you cannot bring to us the lives lost during that period. Everybody has the democratic right to agitate for money, but my anger was because Kenyans through their taxes educated you until you took an oath to protect their lives”.
He called on governors to bury the hatched with the doctors’ union – Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) – and pay the doctors their dues on time.
