A group of women from Gatundu South held a demonstration protesting derogatory remarks attributed to area MP Moses Kuria.
The protesters marched along the Kiamwangi-Kiganjo road and demanded that Kuria apologizes for allegedly using abusive language against one of his rivals Joyce Ngugi who is eyeing the parliamentary seat.
They claimed the MP had told youths on Monday that he would strip Joyce and ensure she gets “circumcised”, a claim that Kuria declined to respond to when contacted.
“Such shameful remarks demean all of us as women and not just Joyce. It is time leaders respect women and conduct themselves with decorum. Kuria is also proving to be an embarrassment even to our President who comes from Gatundu,” said one of the protesters Margaret Muthoni.
They said the alleged remarks by the legislator amounted to intimidation of his rival and urged the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission to take action.
Kuria is expected to face a bruising battle for the Jubilee Party ticket from opponents political newcomer Kung’u Kibathi and Joyce during the primaries which take place on April 21.
