A car dealer who was shot dead in a hail of bullets on Monday afternoon along Thika Road evaded several arrests for almost five years.
Thirty-six-year-old Daniel Gucoma Ndutire had multiple robbery with violence cases pending in courts.
He was issued with a warrant of arrest for jumping bail in a robbery case.
“On the 14th day of June 2014 at Santon estate, Mwiki within Nairobi County jointly with others not before court while armed with dangerous weapons,” stated pleriminary report.
The robbery case was terminated by Makadara Law Courts after they absconded court.
Ndutire and another person identified as Stephen Kamau Mungai had been accused of robbing Patrick Kariuki Nduati of his lorry, 300 gas cylinders and two mobile phones at Sunton in Mwiki, Nairobi County.
They were arrested and charged at the Makadara Law Courts for the robbery with court records indicating that they also robbed Nduati of Sh117,000.
They were later released on bail of Sh500,00 however, they jumped bail and the court issued several warrants of arrest leading to the arrest of one of the sureties.
According to authorities, he was never arrested but continued with his activities unabated.
In March 2017, according to the police, Ndutire was among six suspects who were involved in a failed bank robbery in Eldoret town after they disarmed police officers guarding a bank.
The robbers raided Supreme Equity Bank at Poa Place in Eldoret and disarmed police officers on guard duties of their AK47 rifles.
However, they escaped before committing any robbery at the bank.
Police arrested three suspects at Cheptiret market along Eldoret-Nakuru Highway and recovered the three guns and a Toyota Harrier with a fake number plate that had been used during the robbery.
Additionally, police said on July 15, 2015 Ndutire and other men blocked a lorry loaded with laptops, clothes and mobile phones worth Sh60 million.
In the same year, stolen goods worth over Sh3 million were recovered in Ritho village in Kiambu, at the residence of Ndutire leading to the arrest and prosecution of his mother Mary Wanjiku Nditure and his wife Susan Wangare Njoroge.
At the Milimani Magistrate Court, Ndutire had pending cases and his last appearance in court was September 21, 2020.
Nduati was driving a private Subaru Forester along Thika Road near Kwa Wakairu when he was attacked by armed men who sprayed his car with 25 bullets, killing him.
According to police, the suspects were tracking the motorist on a motorcycle.
Police suspect the attackers were after the businessman as nothing was stolen from him as the attackers left the scene immediately after accomplishing their mission.
The killers are said to have sped off shortly after killing the man according to eyewitnesses.
