Leadership wrangles that have rocked Nairobi county assembly escalated yesterday after the Makongeni ward Peter Inwatok representative was ousted as the minority whip.
According to a communication presented on the floor of the house by Deputy Speaker John Kamangu from the opposition party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Imwatok will be replaced by savannah ward MCA Nicholus Okumu.
Imwatok has for the last few days fallen out with most assembly leaders who have been accusing him of sabotaging the current leadership of Deputy Governor Ann Kananu.
His critics say that he has tarnished their image by only advancing his own personal interests.
“There is no way that we will continue to have a leader who always thinks that he is right and he is never willing to be corrected. From the inception of the assembly, he has been fighting every leader in the county. Is he the only angel in the county?,” said Majority leader Abdi Guyo.
However, in his defense, Imwatok says that his critics are fighting him for his hard stance on corruption.
“ I have been serious with my job and I will continue to do. Those behind by removal are part of the city cartels,’ he said.
Last year, ODM made changes to its leadership where Embakasi MCA Michael Ogada was appointed as the new minority leader replacing Karen MCA David Mberia.
The deputy minority leaders’ position went to nominated MCA Mellab Atema who replaced Hospital Ward MCA Patrick Musili of Wiper Party.
However, Imwatok and his deputy, Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto retained their positions.
