A horde of irate residents of Kathanjuri market in Embu County stormed into their local dispensary in the company of Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire who had been locked out of the facility by her political rival.
The parliamentarian who was to open a newly constructed building that sought to expand the dispensary to offer maternity services had arrived at the venue, only to be informed that Governor Martin Wambora had instructed personnel at the medical facility not to allow her to enter in.
Drama ensued as supporters of the legislator forced open the gates and after a brief scuffle chased away the security personnel who had earlier stood their ground that Mbarire and her followers were not welcome within the dispensary’s precincts.
The MP had however to contend with ceremoniously cutting a ribbon after the melee to symbolise opening of the maternity ward and only peeping through the windows to inspect the facility and evaluate the workmanship, since medical personnel had locked down the building and disappeared with the keys.
