Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary and Kirinyaga governor aspirant Ann Waiguru has asked the Jubilee party to probe the chaos that marred a meeting that had been called to pick members of the Kirinyaga county election board.
Addressing a news conference shortly after the meeting was disrupted, Waiguru accused current governor Joseph Ndathi of orchestrating the violence in a bid to force his preferred candidates into the board.
She said: “The people of Kirinyaga are peace-loving and the chaos witnessed today does not in any way mirror what we are.”
She proposed that those who caused the violence be barred from taking part in the nominations adding that it was not necessary for the party secretariat to place the responsibility of picking election board officials on members since some aspirants are trying to manipulate the process.
“I call on Jubilee party and the government to take action against those behind the chaos, including barring them from vying in the nominations.”
Waiguru further noted that it was not necessary for the party secretariat to place the responsibility of picking election board officials on members since some aspirants are trying to manipulate the process.
