The cattle rustling menace bedeviling Baringo County has taken a new twist after residents of Baringo South and North constituencies filed a suit in the High Court against Tiaty MP Asman Kamama and County Speaker William Kamket.
The petitioners told the High Court in Kabarnet that they have a reason to believe that the two leaders are behind the banditry witnessed in the county in the last few months. They now want them declared not fit to hold public office.
Led by human rights activist Amos Olempaka, who represented Illchamus and Tugen communities, the petitioners asked the court to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves especially considering that lives have been lost and property destroyed.
Adding that hundreds of families have been displaced from their homes, the petitioners said the court the court to stamp its authority and ensure that justice is done.
“We want to use the power of the judiciary for justice to prevail to our people and that is why we are seeking intervention and we are hopeful the court will help us,” said Olempaka.
