Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has faulted the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces to the banditry prone Baringo county saying that is not the solution to runaway insecurity in the North Rift region.
Speaking at Sirikwa trading centre in Kuresoi where he unveiled Chama Cha Mwananchi party’s gubernatorial aspirant for Nakuru, Peter Koros, Governor Ruto said the government should instead focus on developing the region.
He said majority of youth in West Pokot and Baringo Counties are not educated and therefore practice outdated traditional practices such as cattle rustling something that is fueling inter-ethnic violence in the clash-torn region.
“The government should allocate enough resources to develop the area to empower the residents instead of sending armed forces to harass our children and other vulnerable citizens,” the governor remarked.
