A multi-agency security team is combing the Kenya-Somalia border for the fourth day now in a bid to rescue a Chief abducted by Al-Shabaab militants in Khorof Harar in Wajir East last Friday.
By today, a contingent team of personnel conducting the operation had not reported any success sparking fears the extremists group could have crossed over to Somalia.
According to police sources, the heavily armed members of the Al-Qaeda terror group stormed Gumurey village at 7:30pm, ordered residents to switch off their phones before lecturing them for about an hour.
They then kidnapped Oman Aden, a local Chief.
However, they are yet to make any ransom demands.
“Efforts to trace the chief are ongoing.” Our source indicated.
The search and rescue operation is being derailed by poor communication network.
Khorof Harar was in August elevated to a sub county with the national government pledging to beef up security in an area that lies along the porous Somalia border.
Khorof Harar has been in headlines due to persistent terror incidents in the area.
In May, suspected members of Al-Shabaab militants attacked Khorof Kharar police camp and destroyed a Safaricom communication mast.
In April, at least six people, including a Kenya police reservist, were killed in the area by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
Prior to that in January, two people were injured after a commuter bus operating between Khorof Harar and Qarsa was sprayed with bullets by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
